Citation Sources

AI engines lean on a small set of trusted domains when they answer questions in your category. This page shows you which ones — and turns them into a ranked outreach list.

Why citations matter

When an engine cites sources, those domains are effectively its bibliography for your category. If the sites AI trusts never mention you, your mention rate has a ceiling no amount of on-site optimization will break. Earning presence on those domains — a listing, a review, a mention — is the off-site half of GEO.

Cited domains

The first section aggregates every source URL found in your collected answers: KPI cards for total citations, unique domains, and the top domain, plus a top-sources chart. Citations are pulled verbatim from answers and grouped by domain.

Citations can legitimately be sparse

Many models rarely include source links, so this page can stay thin even when the rest of your analytics are fully populated. That’s a property of the engines, not a bug in your setup.

Outreach targets

Turn the raw list into a work list:

  1. 1

    Score the sources

Click Score sources. GEOX evaluates each cited domain as an outreach target — how often it’s cited, whether it mentions you already, and how realistic it is to get added.

  2. 2

    Work the ranked table

The table ranks every domain. Typical plays, depending on the site: claim your listing on directories and review sites, pitch publications, answer in communities, or request inclusion in comparison round-ups.

  3. 3

Track each source through the pipeline

Each source carries a pipeline status so you can track it from “not started” through outreach to earned mention — and push any of them into your Tasks backlog.

Sources that cite competitors — but not you

The final section is the sharpest list on the page: domains the engines already cite when discussing your competitors, that have never cited you. These sites demonstrably influence answers in your category and are missing exactly one thing — you. Start your outreach here.

Prerequisites

  • Run at least one collection — citations come from stored answers.
  • Add competitors (for the competitor-gap section) on the Brands page.
  • The top-bar date-range and platform filters apply here too — “All time” usually gives the most complete domain list.
